The application will NOT run properly under any newer version of Windows, even with all of the usual compatibility settings (actually, the entire app runs ok, except that it will not print under any newer version of Windows, which is absolutely critical to its usage). The original source code is NOT available. The application includes proprietary data and features that cannot be duplicated by any other application without re-writing. The company that originally wrote the application is no longer in business. I need to do this to support a legacy technical library application for a small non-profit business that time and budget constraints will NOT support re-developing. Unlike the other thread referenced above, I do NOT have a viable option of installing the shared printer under Windows XP. While attempting to add the printer under 98SE, I am logged in with a user name and password that exists on the Windows 7 machine (with Administrator rights).įrom other articles and purported solutions that I have come across online, this combination should be all that that is needed in order to add a Windows 7 shared printer under 98SE. But at this point, the add printer dialogue now always says that the referenced printer is offline, regardless of whether or not there is even a valid printer share of that name on the WIndows 7 machine, and regardless of whether such printer is actually online or not. This change does allow FILE sharing to working properly between the two machines, and allows me to get further in attempting to add the shared printer under 98SE. In the registry, I have already changed LMCompatibilityLevel entries to 3 under Windows 98SE, and to 1 under Windows 7. But no true solution was ever provided to that question, so I need to ask again: How can Windows 98SE and Windows 7 be configured to allow printing from Windows 98SE to a printer that is shared under Windows 7?
